How can I participate in a project?
To join a recording project, follow these simple steps:
- Fill out the Recruitment Form to tell us about your language background.
- Find a native-speaking partner (a friend, colleague, or someone you're comfortable talking with) and have them fill out the Recruitment Form as well.
- Complete the Session Setup Form, including your partner’s email and your chosen topic.
- Once both forms are submitted, you’ll each receive a personal recording link to use for your recording session..
Conversations must be recorded by 11:59 PM UTC on the last day of the month to be eligible for payment in the following month.
For example, a recording submitted on 31 July would be eligible for payment in August, and a recording submitted on 1 August would be eligible for payment in September. Click here to learn more about payments.
How do I invite someone to participate?
First, talk to your potential partner and make sure they:
- Consent to participate in the project
- Complete the sign-up steps
- Receive their rate email
Do not generate recording links until you have spoken with your partner and they have completed the sign-up process! Sending them the links without speaking to them first is not allowed.
Can I partner with more than one person?
Yes! You’re encouraged to work with as many partners as you’d like. Record conversations with family, friends, colleagues, or anyone that speaks the same native language as you, as long as:
- Each partner has signed up and consented.
- You generate a new link for each recording.
Your partner is also welcome to record new conversations with other native speakers.
Do people who participate in the project need to be interpreters?
No, participants do not need to be interpreters or have any special training. We’re looking for natural, everyday conversations in your native language. As long as you speak clearly and follow the project guidelines, you’re eligible to participate!
Can I record by myself?
No. This project is based on capturing natural interactions, so at least two participants are required for each recording session.
My partner and I completed all the topics. What now?
Great work! Once you've completed all the topics with one partner, you're encouraged to team up with a new speaking partner and record fresh conversations on the same topics. Your original partner is also welcome to do the same with someone new.
Please be sure to follow the same guidelines when bringing a new speaker onboard. See here for details.
Can I refer other people to collaborate on this project?
Yes! Feel free to share the Recruitment Form with friends, family, or colleagues who:
- Are native speakers,
- Can follow the project guidelines, and
- Would enjoy contributing.
Please make sure they understand the requirements before signing up.
Is there a referral bonus?
Not currently. While there's no bonus, we love working with great people, so referring reliable participants helps keep the project strong.
If a referral program becomes available, we’ll be sure to share the details with you.
