ASL is not my native language, should I choose English?
No. Even though ASL may not be your native language, please select ASL when you sign up and when filling out the form you recieved to generate a recording link. Selecting ASL as your 'native language' triggers the ability to capture a video recording.
If you select another language, only the audio will be captured. This will cause your submission to be rejected and you will not be paid.
Can my partner be hearing?
Jeenie highly encourages you to partner with Deaf individuals. If you're unable to find a Deaf partner, you can partner with others from the Deaf community— CODAs, people with hearing loss, ASL interpreters, or others who identify with Deaf culture. As long as they are fluent in ASL and Deaf culture, they are welcome.
Can we speak during our recording?
No. The recording should be in ASL only with no speaking.
The link you generate does have a video and audio stream to allow you and your partner to communicate using ASL or a spoken language. Once you click to begin the recording, you should no longer communicate using a spoken language. The entire recorded conversation should be in ASL.
