What language should we use during the recording?
All conversations must be recorded between participants in your native language. This ensures natural and fluent communication, which is essential for the quality of the recordings.
I'm fluent but not a native speaker. Can I still record?
No. Being fluent in a language is not the same as being a native speaker of a language. This specific project requires native speakers of a language. You can only record in a language in which you are a native speaker.
What's the Difference?
- Fluency: This is the skill and ability to speak a language very well. A person can be fluent in many languages, but usually only a native speaker of one or two.
- Native Speaker: You learned the language early in life—often as your first language or in early childhood. This learning happens naturally, through everyday life, not formal study. It's about the origin of your language knowledge.
- Your pronunciation, word choices, and idioms match those of a native speaker community.
- You grew up speaking the language at home.
- You grew up in a country where the language is primarily spoken.
- You were educated in the language between the ages of 5 to 15.
- You think in the language most of the time.
Can I use the same topic in multiple recordings?
Yes, you can use the same topic more than once—as long as each recording features a different conversation or new partner.
You’re welcome to:
-
Reuse topics with different partners
-
Work with the same partner across different topics
- Work with the same partner across the same topics, but change the conversation.
- Example: If you choose the topic "Parenting", have one conversation on surviving the toddler years, another on tips for sleeping through the night, and another one on managing a teenager's busy schedule.
What happens if I select the wrong topic in the form?
If you notice the incorrect topic on your recording link, you have two options.
- Record the session using the displayed topic, or
- Go back to the Google form and generate a new recording link with your intended topic.
Please do not record a conversation on a different topic than what is shown for the link. Recordings submitted with incorrect language or topic will be rejected and unpaid.
Are there any topics to avoid during the conversation?
Yes! While recording with your partner, please avoid:
- Offensive or explicit language
- Political, religious, or controversial content
Keep the conversation friendly, respectful, and suitable for a general audience.
